"FRESH PRINCE" STAR SINGS SONGS BY R&B GREAT IN NEW MUSICAL.
Hollywood - Tatyana Ali, who played Will Smith's youngest cousin for seven seasons on the NBC hit comedy "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air", will star in If You Don't Believe: A Love Story -- a new musical set to the greatest hits of 80's pop/soul star and four-time Grammy winner Deniece Williams ("Let's Hear It For The Boy, "Black Butterfly", "Silly", "Free") -- at the Zephyr Theater in Hollywood from April 23 to May 16, 2004.
Ali, who also co-starred with Gabrielle Union and Morris Chestnut in the 2001 film "The Brothers", plays Lucy -- the youngest child of a musically-gifted family who dreams of being a star. Set in the 1970s, this family-friendly comedy/drama about love and the price of success was written, directed and produced by two-time NAACP Award-winning playwright/producer Michael Ajakwe, Jr. (You're All I Need To Get By: The Marvin Gaye/Tammi Terrell Story, Company Policy, Happy Anniversary, Punk!)
If You Don't Believe: A Love Story also features Chrystee Pharris (NBC's "Passions"), Johnny Gilmore (Black Olive), Sy Smith ( Ally McBeal), Kosmond Russell, Derrick Delaney, Trisha Mann, Darius Dudley, Makeda Tene, Chante Carmel, Maia, E'lon Cox, Bill Lee Brown, Angela Jordan, Shana Williams, Brenda Dickerson, Demecka Jackson, and Christopher Emmons, with musical direction by Scott "Bugs" Allen. Ray Aldridge is the executive producer and singer/songwriter Deniece Williams also serves as co-producer.
